The trade name is the simplest form of a business organization. The proprietor assumes all responsibilities for the business including financing, operation, taxes, and accepts all profits or losses. If the business fails, the owner must assume total liability. This means all assets, whether business or personal, can be legally taken and used to discharge the liability. ADVANTAGES: - Organization can be informal and flexible. - Easy to start and affordable. DISADVANTAGES: - Profits are personally taxable. - The company ends with the death of the proprietor. - Personally liable for all debts and judgments against the business. -Filing a declaration does not give any right of ownership of the name. The incorporation is a separate legal entity from the directors or shareholders within the corporation. There will be a separate tax filing for the corporation, separate from the directors or shareholders within the corporation. ADVANTAGES: -Limited liability - The limited company forms a distinct legal entity apart from the owners. Therefore, no shareholder of the company can be held personally liable for the debts, obligations or acts of the company. The liability of a shareholder is limited to the value of that shareholders shares. - Ownership of a limited company is easily transferred by the selling of shares, without upsetting the management of the business. - No other limited company can use the exact same name. - The life of the limited company does not end with the death of a shareholder. DISADVANTAGES: - Costs are higher when incorporating and additional records are required. -Annual returns must be filed yearly to keep the company active. West-End Registries may provide general information. When deciding on what type of business you should register, we are unable to provide legal advice. We recommend that you consult with a lawyer or an accountant.

To locate the start and end date for the director and shareholder, there would be possibly 2 records that need to be requested. The transfer of land form is located on the Service Alberta website. The forms will be completed and submitted directly to Land Titles.

Unfortunately Registry Agents do not have the ability to search the land titles system in Alberta by name – we can only search by address or legal description. The name search facility is available directly from the Land Titles Office in Calgary or in Edmonton, but these search requests are limited to individuals who meet certain criteria legislated in the Land Titles Name Search Regulations established by the Land Titles Act. The name search will search land titles by owner's name and documents by names listed on the interests. See Appendix III of the Land Titles Procedure Manual at: www.servicealberta.gov.ab.ca/pdf/ltmanual/APPENDIXIII.pdf If you are eligible based on one of the criteria listed in the Appendix, an application for name search would need to be completed and submitted to the Land Titles Office with appropriate supporting documentation. The application can be found at: NAME_SEARCH_APPLICATION.pdf (gov.ab.ca)

There is a licence process called Code F available to change your address when you are not able to attend the office in person due to COVID-19. If you are able to attend the office for an address change, the documents mentioned above are not applicable as the address change will be processed in person which does not place the Code F on your Alberta licence. If you would like to proceed with the Code F address change, I can email you the application and information you need. For the birth certificate, all vital statistics applications must be done in person. The only exception is when the child is a newborn or born within the last year, the hospital would have provided you a tracking number to place the order through your MyAlberta Digital ID. With your previous learners experience, you must hold the licence for 365 days before you are eligible for a Class 5 Basic road test. Even though your licence had expired, your learning history is still available, so the 1 year waiting period does not restart. As your licence expired more than 6 months ago, you will need to surrender the previous licence, provide proof of legal presence in Canada (such as Cdn Passport or Cdn Birth Certificate, or immigration document) and proof of residency (bank statement, paystub, lease agreement, or utility bill).

There was a government notice in December 2020, which indicated “Alberta licence plates are transitioning from current painted licence plates to plates made from reflective material, which are easier for police to scan using Automated Licence Plate Reader Technology. Reflective plates will be issued on a go-forward bases when the current stock of painted licence plates run out (approximately October 2021). Service Alberta will also continue working with police agencies to find additional ways to identify and validate a vehicle’s registration status at roadside” There has been no updates or communication to the registry offices since this initial notice.
