Birth Certificates
Requesting a Birth Certificate in Person
- Complete Birth Certificate Application

Requesting a Birth Certificate Online (New Births)
- To request a birth certificate online, the birth must have been registered online within the last year. You will require the tracking number from your online registration. Order Here
- For "Select a Registry", please search by name and choose "West-End Registries". Thank you!
The following applicants may request a birth certificate and certified copy of a Registration of Birth:
- The person (whose birth is registered); when the applicant is 12 years old or older.
- The parent of the person as established by the person’s birth record.

A guardian or trustee for a person.
- The applicant must be named in the guardianship order or trusteeship document.

A person adopting the person.
- The applicant must be named in the adoption document.

Historic Records
Anyone may apply for a copy of a person's historic Registration of Birth through the Provincial Archives of Alberta if:
- 120 years have passed from that person's date of birth, or
- The person has been deceased for 50 years or more.
Marriage Certificates
Requesting a Marriage Certificate
- Complete Marriage Certificate Application
- Provide Acceptable Photo ID
Examples may include: Valid Driver’s Licence or Provincial Identification Card, Valid Passport, Permanent Resident Card, Citizenship Card.
The following applicants may request a marriage certificate and certified copy of a Registration of Marriage:
- The person (whose marriage is registered)

A guardian, trustee, or person with power of attorney for either of the persons in (1)
- The applicant must be named in the guardianship order, trusteeship document or power of attorney document

Next-of-kin to the deceased person whose marriage is registered
- Proof of death must be provided to show the applicant is eligible in this category

The executor, personal representative or administrator for the estate of the deceased person in?? whose marriage is registered
- Proof of death must be provided to show the applicant is eligible in this category

Historic Records
Anyone may apply for a copy of a person's historic Registration of Marriage through the Provincial Archives of Alberta after 75 years have passed from the date of marriage.
Death Certificates
Requesting a Death Certificate
- Complete Death Certificate Application

The following applicants may request a death certificate and certified copy of a Registration of Death:

An executor, personal representative or administrator for the deceased person’s estate
- The applicant must be named in the will (or similar document)

Next-of-kin to the deceased person
- Proof of relationship must be submitted with the application

Former spouse or former adult interdependent partner (a term that carries legal meaning similar to common law, but not the same) of the deceased
- Proof of relationship must be submitted with the application

A person who was, immediately before the deceased's death, a guardian of, or trustee for the deceased
- The applicant must be named in the guardianship order or trusteeship document

Historic Records:
After 50 years have passed (from a person's date of death), anyone may apply through the Provincial Archives of Alberta for:
- Copy of the person's Registration of Death
- Copy of the person's Medical Certificate of Death
Marriage Licences
Requesting an Alberta Marriage Licence

Both partners must attend the registry office in person.
- If the couple are not able to attend together, please contact our office to make alternative arrangements to have the marriage licence issued.
- Note: Please attend our office at least 45 minutes before closing to allow ample time to complete the marriage licence during your visit and prevent the need to return at another time.

Must be 18 years of age or older.
- If under the age of 18 years old and over the age of 16 years old, all parents and/or legal guardians must consent to the marriage licence being issued.

Provide Acceptable Photo ID.
- ID Requirements
- Examples may include: Valid Driver’s Licence or Provincial Identification Card, Valid Passport, Permanent Resident Card, Citizenship Card.

Provide proof of marital status.
- Never been married - No marital status documents are needed.
- Divorced - Proof of divorce is needed; the divorce document provided must be the final document (for example, Certificate of Divorce, Decree Absolute)
- Widowed - A death certificate of the deceased spouse is not needed.
- Applying for a marriage licence for a marriage that will take place in Alberta within the next 90 days.
