When and why is it required?
An extra-provincial registration is required when a corporation formed outside of the jurisdiction of Alberta wishes to operate its business in Alberta.
If any one of the following situations applies to you, an extra-provincial registration is required. The corporation:
- solicits business in Alberta;
- advertises in an Alberta telephone directory or appears in any advertisement with an Alberta address;
- has a local representation of resident agent, representative, or employee;
- has a physical presence — warehouse, office or place of business in Alberta;
- requires to be licensed or registered, under any Act of Alberta, to carry on business;
- owns land in Alberta.
Named and numbered extra-provincial corporations can be registered online through our online registration form, or by visiting our office. Have questions? Please contact us.
